バージニア大学

このエントリはバージニア大学についてのですか。そうですね。。。

私は四年生だし、バージニア大学でたくさんいいけいけんがあっています。私は一番好きな所はもちろんロタンダと言う建物です。とてもきれいで、時々十二時ごろ、ロタンダですわったり、勉強したりするのが好きです。ロタンダの中で、いつもしずかだから、そこに勉強に行くのがいいかもしれません。それから、バージニア大学に行きたい高校生は来るといつもロタンダについて教えに来る時、私も大学に行きたい時間について考えるとうれしくなりました。

バージニア大学の学生はたいてい親切ですが、試験がある時、一番いいせいせきをとってみたいです。私は医者になりたい時、ほかの学生は手伝ってくれないんです！学生は私よりいいせいせきをとりたいからって！それから、授業はとても大半だから、時々、学生は困っていたり、落ち込んだりしなります。その時、カプスと言って、学生を助けてくれる所に学生は行けます。

バージニア大学のそばにドウントウンにあります。私は食べるのが大好きだし、いつもドウントウンのレストランに大きい晩御飯を食べに行きます。いつも小さい晩御飯をちゅうもんしようと思っていますが、晩御飯を食べてから、全部食べ過ぎなければよかったねと思っています。

じゃあ、来年、私はミスりに行くつもりですが、私はバージニア大学のが好きだし、いつも来ようと思っています。大学院を卒業してから、シャローッツビルで働くかもしれないでしょうと思っているんです。

最近、私はいつもしなくてもいい事がたくさんありますよ！私はいそがしすぎると日本のしゅくだいをしないんです。日本語の授業はせんもんのクラスが大学院でいるクラスじゃないからです。

でも。。。

先週の木曜日に、私は一番入りたい大学院に電話をかけるんですが、女の人は私はワシントン大学でセーントルーイスにいけるんです！　　私はうれしくなりました。。。

今、日本語のクラスとほかの授業の事を勉強ができて、いいせいせきをとるといいと思っています。。。クラスの勉強がぜんぜんおわりませんでしたよ！

ラスト・フレンズ

私は”日本の一番好きな物”がありませんですが、Jdramaを見るのが好きです。シェアのりょうでラスト・フレンズと言うJDramaを始めました。それから、私は彼とルームメートと全部見ました。その時はとてもたのしいですが、ラスト・フレンズはかなしいですね。

話は男の人と女の人の愛がたくさんあります。話はみちるさんについてなんです。みちるさんは彼とすんでいましたが、みちるさんの彼さんはみちるさんといつもかんかしましたから、とてもこわいです。みちるさんの友達は友達の家に助けにみちるさんを迎えに行きます。でも、みちるさんの彼はいつも尽けました（Stalked her）。それから、みちるさんの女の親友はみちるさんが大好きです。

先週書かなくて、ごめんね！

大学の後、私は大学院にいきたいですから、私は大学院に入るのをしなくちゃいけない事をしてみました。三週前、いつも大学院に入るしけんにたいていある単語をおぼえてみました。でも、学校のしゅくだいや学校のしけんもありますから、あまり時間がありませんから、とても大変ですね。

今、あき休みがありますが、ゆっくりしていません。きのう、GREをしました！それから、心理学のはっぴょうがあるんですが、今日から火曜日まで、勉強しようとおもっています。

だめですね。

私はもうすぐブロゴのエントリは書けないんですが、ごめなさい。

私は最近しゅくだいがたくさんありますよ。長い読み物を読まなくてはいけなくて、長い作文もかかなくてはいけなきませんから、私は日本語のしゅくだいを早くしていて、私のこたえはいつちがいます！だめですね。。。

じゃあ、ブログのアサインメントは主審のそばの所について書く事です。じゃあ、子供の時に、私の好きな所はカリフォルニアのカ－メル・バイ・つぁ・べー「カ－メル」でした。

カ－メルは海のとなりの小さい町です。

とてもきれいですが、子供の時に、両親とおじさんとおばさんはおよぐことができませんでしたから、海のとなりにさんぽうならしました。ぜんぜんおよぎませんでした。そして、みんなのかぞくが行った時に買い物をたくさんしました。ほかの主審の人がたくさんいますから、カルメルのおみやげはちょっとたかいですが、私はおばさんの好きな子供ですから、おばさんはおもちゃを買って、おみやげをくれました。

カーメルは海のとなりだから、シーフードは人気があって、とてもおいしいです。カーメルの食べ物の中で、私はカラマリが一番大好きです。カラマリはいかです。

今、バージニアに住んでいるから、私はカーメルにあまり行けましたが、大学院の後でもカリフォルニアをすんでいるんじゃないでしょうかね。。。カーメルをよく行くつもりですね。

どうして日本語を勉強している？

私は今とったじゅぎょうの中で、日本語のじゅぎょうが一番たくさんしゅくだいがあて、私はきんちょうするのだよ。。でも、四年生の時に、どうしてとる？

じゃあ、私のねがいは国の言葉がたくさん分かる事し。　私は旅行をする事の時に、その国の言葉を話せる事はとてもいい。今まで、私は英語とスペイン語を分かる。フィリピン語を聞くなら分かりるが、私はフィリピン語を話せません。だめですね。

それから、子供の時から、私は日本はとてもおもしろい。映画の中で、いつもさむらいやげいしゃや日本のれきし事があるのが、日本にきょうみがある事になりました。それから、親友は日本をならって、いつも日本をおしえる。たのしいね。

今週はしけんの週だよ！私はしけんが四つあるから、ストレスがたくさんあって、少ない時間ねている。だから、私はたくさん病気だよ！私は何をしなくちゃいけないでしょ？

Project Thoughts

sumimasen. kono konpyuutaa wa nihongo no puroguramo ga nai kara, watashi wa nihongo de kaite wa ikenai...

hmm, so basque-san, keem-san, and i did our project on JPJ and showed it in class today. our sound was not good, which i'm pretty sure was because we recorded in a hallway ( i was the only one who recorded in a closed room, and my sound turned out great -- sorry guys! ) but i thought our project was still ii. even though we didn't have the cutesy sounds and the nice effects, we spoke in japanese and really had a lot to say about jpj - we really did our research. we learned a ton about jpj, so i guess i'm trying to say that our Brochure　was informative, even if it wasnt as aesthetically pleasing.

now on the project itself - although writing on a building wasn't that bad, i don't know if it allowed our fullest creativity to come out. personally, i would have loved to actually be in the brochure, and made like a video. (i also have a ton of experience doing that, so i wouldn't have screwed our group so much with the sound and stuff) i think that would have also motivated us to not wait til last second and do it on sunday night (which all the groups said they did!) i hear we're doing that next year though, so that'll be exciting! we'll seeee.

wow. another semester FLOWN by.

what did i think about japn 102?
i think that it was definitely tougher than japn 101, maybe because of all the quizzes that we had every day, but definitely because the tests got a little more intense ("write 2-3 sentences expanding as much as possible while being creative at the same time") and the GRAMMAR kinda drove me nuts. and by the grammar i mean "ndesu." BUT i still loved japn class, even if it's kinda stressful to get the drills and everything, i look back at that class and i'm like YEAH im actually learning a diff language. maybe that's just me, because i don't have to be taking this class. i'm going to be a fourth year next year... and the only reason i'm in this class is because i think it's interesting.

i think this semester, just like last semester - japanese class is definitely a place to make friends. i'm happy that ji hye, vy, and lauren were all in my class again this semester! hahaha, ji hye just walked in the room... she's talking on the phone (i'm in clark). i'm going to miss them next year if we're not in the same class again! (and ji hye's a fourth year, so that's not even a possibility!) it was also great to meet everything new, like ingsha, paul (both of them), hannah, cindy... and... that's it! haha, dang our class was small.

satoo sensei being our teacher again next semester? i think it's great- she already knows us all so well, she'll probably know me better than i know myself next semester. :P

well, everyone good look on their projects. can't wait to watch them!

oh p.s.
i went hot air ballooning yesterday. :)

私はねがいがたくさんあるので、私は時々ストレスがたくさんある。「私は正しい事をする？」とよく思う。。。

私はいしゃになりたいだよ。私は子どもと働きたいから、今までしたぜんぶアルバイトは子どもと働いた。とてもたのしかったね！でも、なつ休みは病気で大人と働くつもりだよ。ちょっとこわいと思うけど、私は新しいことがなくちゃいけないでしょう。

私は日本に行きたいだよ。私は日本語をれんしゅうしたい！それから、私はまつりを見たい。日本の文かは面白いね！

じゃあ、火曜日にクラスがおわるので、かなしいね。。。

sorry it took like a year to post this. my computer is so messed up. but here it is =) chotto kowai ne. byouki dattannokara, koe wa kirei ja nain no. netsu ga arun no yo.

日曜日から木曜日までバージニア大学の学生はいそがしくて、ストレスがたくさんあるから、学生は木曜日の夜にたのしい事をしたいです。私は木曜日にパーティーで友だちとおどったり、おさけを飲んだりするのがたのしいと思ったことがありますが、今三年ぐらいその事をするから、それはつまらなくなりました。だから、私は今毎しゅうの木曜日にかれとあそんで、デートをするのが好きです。

木曜日は六時に、かれがクラスの後で私に会います。私は大学の時にシャローっツビルのぜんぶレストランで食べたいから、よく一しょに新しいレストランに食べに行きます。今まで食べに行ったレストランはおいしい食べものがありますが、ちょっと高いです。母は私のレストランについて話しを聞いて、私とかれが一ばんお金をつかうと思うと言っていました。でも、雨の日と雪の日にはどこにも行きません。その日には家でばんごはんを作ります。私はかれはりょうりするのがあまり上手ないと思うから、私はかれは一人でばんごはんを作ってはいけないと言っていました。でも、かれはよく私を手つだって、りょうりをならいます。ばんごはんの後で、テレビゲームをしたり、と書かんでかりた映画を見たりします。私とかれはスペイン語を話すのが上手になりたいから、テレビにスペイン語の文字を出る事をつけます。

しゅうの日の中で、木曜日が一ばんたのしいと思います。四年生の時にも毎しゅうの木曜日にデートをするつもりです。

Speeches and Peer Review

I accidentally never wrote what I felt about speeches and peer review! So here it goes...

Ahh. Speech time is over. I actually like the speeches much better than skits. I think it gives us a chance to really practice our Japanese in front of everyone, on something we really worked hard on. I mean, I guess skits we "work hard on," but a lot of times, because we have one every chapter - I feel like we just rush through them and settle for the minimum. Not for speeches though.

Also, the peer reviews are really helpful to see other people's writing styles. It may even be nice to have some sort of peer review before sakubuns are due, so we can write them, read other people's writings in our class/have ours read, and have a chance to correct little mistakes before satoo sensei murders our papers in red. The only thing is that I wish we had just a little bit more time to talk with our partners about the peer reviews, because the time we had to talk was SUPER fast.

Hm, one more thing that came to mind. Memorization. So, it was a common misconception that Satoo Sensei woulda taken points off our speeches if we looked down at our paper. So - we all memorized it. But this isn't how a speech should be! Honestly, when was the last time you saw a speech being given without the person referring to their notes at least once. Yes, we could easily have memorized it/we did easily memorize it - but were we comfortable? ... Heck no. We were super nervous. I feel like next semester, it should really be stressed that we ARE allowed to look at a paper (not really read from it - but look at the notes) without getting points off.

And, that's all. My speech file will be up here eventually, but I haven't gotten the chance to upload shimasu. My internet is really slow at home...

きのう、ミックスクラスがあるね。　私はきのうのクラスははじめてミックスクラスよりたのしいですね。多分十一時のクラスがいるでしょう。。。でも、私はテイタムさんに会ったんです。日本語を話すのが上手だよね。

最近、文ぽうはむずかしいね！私を手つってください！　私は「んです」を使うはむずかしいねけど、私は新しい文ぽうはべんりね。

Mix wo shimashou!

Hmm... I was not as much of a class mix fan as everyone else was. I felt like I didn't get as much out of the class, because I was kinda shy to share and talk. My class was 6 people big, and it was definitely nice to see some new people (I didn't know anyone) and see their styles, and how much better they are than I am, but I feel like to learn the most I really enjoy having a class I am comfortable with so I can not be scared to practice and make those mistakes for now. But I do realize that if I ever go to Japan, I'm not going to have Riley san and Lam san at my side, haha. So it is definitely good to branch out and to step out of my comfort zone, etc.

So Mixed feelings for the Mixed class...

バージニア大学の学生はたいていきょうか書を読んで、作文を書いて、しけんをします。それから、クラスの後でとしょかんに長い時間べんきょうしに行きます。そこで、だれとも話しないから、学生はさびしいで、ストレスがたくさんあります。だから、私はひまな日があるのがいいと思います。私は毎週の木曜日にかれとあそいで、デートの夜があるのをたのしみにします。

こんばんはみなさん。

はる休みはどうだった？どこか行く？ふゆ休みとはるのとどっちのほうがたのしいですか。私は、はるののほうがふゆのよりたのしいと思う。私はGuatemalaに学校につとめていったに行ったから、私は今ねるのがいりますけど、私の旅行はたのしかった。Guatemalaでスペイン語をたくさんはんしたから、ちょっと日本語をわすれました。でも、古いたん語と古いぶんぽうもうれんしゅうしたから、大丈夫だよ。

ASBとGuatemalaに行った。私はだれも分からないけど、旅行で友だちをたくさん作った。一緒に学校でGuatemalaの子どもとあそいで、山でHikingをして、ねった。ASBのグループはいいともだちになったよ。それから、旅行について話をしたから、来しゅうあうつもりだよ。

でも今はねるつもりだよ。

こんばんはみなさん。私の先週は大へんですから、私はブログをかかなかった。すみません。私は先週の月曜日まだしけんが五つある。私はいそがしいね。

今、私はとてもつかれている。でも、私はよる二時間ぐらいべんきょうする。私もう会話をおぼえなかったけど、まだ読み書きのたんごをおぼえていて、しんりがくの作文をかいていないよ。でも、私はベド（Bed)にすわってから、すぐねると思う。

しゅうまつはどうだった？土曜日、一年生の時にコッゼンのりょうで一緒にすんでいた友だちは家に来て、テレビゲームをした。とてもたのしかったけど、私は時々ルームに出て、べんきょうしなかった。大学を行っているのが大変ね。

私のバレンタイン

今日はバレンタインデーだよ。私の日はおもしろくないけど、つまらなくない。今、私はかれがテレビゲームをするのを見る。

私のかれのおなまえはメーナードだよ。メーナードはちょっとせが高くて、かみがみじかい男の人だよ。（今日のスキーとでは、べカムさんもせが高くて、かみがみじかい男のひとだと言いていました。Haha...)　一年生の時、私はオヒールの食どうでメーナードに会いました。私はメーナードはたのしくて、おもしろいだと思っていました。あとで、毎日あそんでいました。

二年生の時、一月に「ぼイフレンド」と「ガールフレンド」を言っているのをはじめました。

メーナードも三年生で、ピリピン人だよ。メーナードさんはテレビゲームをするのが大好きけど、しゅくだいをするのがきらいだから、ぜんぜんをしない。いい学生じゃない。（TskTsk)　メーナードさんはNavy ROTCを入っているから、よくはやくおきて、Exerciseをしる。一緒にレストランで食べるのが大好きだよ。いいかれだよ。

私はねむり（Sleep)がいるから、私とかれは今日何もしない。メーナードはたのしいけど、私はつまらないと思う！

I did my 文ぽう Presentation on the "Obon Festival." It is a Japanese Buddhist festival, or まつり (woshipping of the gods) held in なつ, normally in 七月 Or 八月。The festival commemorates the dead spirits/ancestors that come back to visit for three days during the festival.

The lanterns (きれいね）are to guide the spirits back home. At the end of the festival, the toronagashi is occurs, which is the lanterns (floats with candles) are sent down the river/sea to guide the spirits back to the other world. People watch as they are carried far away.

This festival is a pretty BIG DEAL. 日本の会社員are allowed to go home and celebrate, and clean the graves of their ancestors. たくさん食べものがあるよ。There are also many games (i.e. try to get the goldfish with a rice paper scoop before it dissolves), bonfires, and fireworks.

Bon odori is folk dancing that happens during the festival - all. night. long.The bon odori usually has repetitive simple movements, so it's not hard to join in! However, the dances do vary from place to place, along with the music.

The most famous Obon festival is in Kyoto. Known for the burning of rafts during the toronagashi (which can no longer be done because of environmental concerns), and other attractions such as this 大 lighting up the slope of the Nyoigatake. Every August 16, this symbol fires on the mountain. The fire ditch was said to have first been dug by Yoshimasa, sending his son Yoshihisa on his way after dying in 1489 in battle as a 24 year old.

子どもの時、私は日本がすきなともだちがいるから、私も日本はおもしろいと思いました。　文字（Characters）はきれいだとおもいましたが、あまり分かりませんでした。

中学校の時、私は外国語のクラスをとるのをはじめました。私はスぺーンのクラスが大すきでしたが、父はスぺーン語はつまらなくないと思いました。だから、大学の時にはスぺーン語をとりました。

今、日本語をとっている。父は日本語が私をてつだってはいけないとおみますが、私は父とすまない。私はクラスがおもしろいと思うのをとってはいいね。

Casual conversation はずかしいね。

Culture Presentation?

So I just spent about 40 minutes looking up what I should do for my culture presentation - because I wanted to do something on Japanese Horror films, and then Satoo sensee reminded me it has to do something with the chapter.

Barbecue. Or excuse me. バーベキュ。

バーベキュですか。日本からきましたか。。。。いいえ。
なにをリサーチをしあすか。

did you know that "hibachi," as in the hibachi restaurants we go to for japanese food and get all excited about because they cook food in front of us and do all sorts of tricks... is NOT what it actually is. a "hibachi" is a heating device in Japan, not even used for cooking. WEIRD.

and i thought i was being all authentic and japanese-cool when i went to kobe/sakura.

but i dont want to do a whole presentation on a heating device, i thought i would just share that piece of info.

so then i started looking up things ppl do at night. because we already have something that ppl do during the day. and... that led me to japanese ghosts. something that really interested me and that would have tied into 'j-horror films' is the 'yuurei.' like the ring girl? yeah she's one... if i can't present on that i'll write about it later.

and also japanese mythology, like the sun god, moon god, and storm. あめたらす、つきよみ、すさのうrespectively.
it's pretty cool to learn about all that stuff. I don't even know anything about shintoism. i feel like maybe we should learn a little more about culture in our class, just little tidbits. i feel like when I took spanish, we had to do a bunch of readings about Tenochtitlan, the girl with big eyebrows-- uhh, frida kahlo, the iglesias de espana, how spanish people are a lot of catolicos, etc.

or maybe i just need to take a japanese class that is not a language class. haha.

こんばんはあたらしいクラスメート、

私はキャランダンです。十九さいで、三年生です。私のせんもんはしんらがくですから、らいねんだいがくいんせいで、びょういんにつとめます。子どもの時、私のともだちは日本がすきで、日本語をたくさん話しましたから、私も日本が好きでした。今も日本がすきですから、日本語のクラスにいて、アジアけんきゅうをべんきょうしています。

あたらしいセメスターはどうですか。そうですね。。。

私のセメスターはいそがしくて、ちょっとむずかしいです。それから、私はよくげんきじゃありませんから、私はスタフォルドにいしゃの会いに帰ります。

私はクラスが五つあて、クレディトが十八つありますから、私はあまりあそびませんが、私のクラスはおもしろいで、大丈夫です。でも、私はぜんぜん去年の日本語の二時の学生をあいません。私は今年の十一時の学生はとてもしんせつですが、二時のクラスは楽しくて、すきでした。あとで十一時の学生も友達ですか。

私は今日本語のクラスがありますから、あとでイントロダクションをかきます。

It really is amazing how much of a language we can learn in one semester -in 6 chapters. This class was definitely a tough one, but it kept us engaged and interested - I don't know anybody in the class who is not taking it because they lost that interest for Japanese. Satoo sensee really knows how to do it. Even if shes chotto kowai sometimes. :)

AND i would just like to say, that the 2:00 PM Japanese class was the best. No matter what anyone else says.

Speech?
But okay - so the speeches are done! I cannot post my speech at this very second, because... well, my computer is barely alive and that's where it is on. But I will without a doubt post it, because I'm pretty proud of it. I think I wrote a pretty decent speech, and gave a pretty decent presentation that got some laughs. I love when the class laughs - it not only means that my presentation is engaging, but that it actually MAKES SENSE. I feel like also it means that we really did learn to understand spoken Japanese, even if it's not from a person with 'natural speed,' it's progress

Late (but up!) Peer Revisions Critique:
Though it was extremely difficult to coordinate who does what feedback when... (yeah, we go to UVA and couldn't even do that) it was nice to read other people's drafts and get a sense of what they're doing. Our peer revisions definitely were helpful in getting ideas for our own papers (sorry if we're not as innovative!) and finding what things we could do to improve. It was also nice to be on the editing side of things for once, instead of having all the red marks - we make the red marks. Finally, I think it was nice to have other classmates tell us what we did correctly. After all of these 'ways to improve' we finally heard a 'something you've already improved'

こどもの時、私のともだちは日本が大すきでした。ともだちは日本語をはなして、日本のテレビを見って、日本のおんがくをききましたから、私も日本がすきです。でも私のがこうは日本語のクラスがありませんでした。

いま、私はバージー二ア大学で日本語の一年生です。日本語のクラスはとてもいそがしいです。よくドリールがありますから。みなさんは一しょにしゅくだいをしてはいけませんが、日本語をたくさんはなして、スキートをしてもいいですから、クラスはとてもにぎやかです。みなさんはともだちですから、スキートはたいていともだちのおなまえがあって、つまらなくありません。時々、クラスがLLにあります。日本語のテープをきって、ブローグをかいます。それから、テストとクイースがたくさんあります。テストは一時間ぐらい日本語をかいて、こわいです。でも、二時のクラスはたくさんべんきょうして、とてもいい学生ですから、テストはむずかしくありません。

あてらしいぶんぽうのしつもんがたくさんありますから、さとう先生はみなさんをてつだいます。だからさとう先生はとてもやさしい人といい先生ですね。クラスは時々たいへんですが、とてもたのしいですね。

日本語のクラスですか。そうですね。。。

わたしは二時に日本語のクラスがあります。じゃあ、いいクラスですねでもとてもむずかしいです。

クラスもにぎやかです。がくせいがたくさんありません。でも日本語をたくさんはなします。がくせいはしずかじゃありません。がくせいもやさしいです。一しょにとしょかんでスキートをします。

日本語のいちねんせいはいそがしいですね。一日はぶんぽうのれんしゅうです。二日と七日はLLにいきます。たくさんききます。三日と四日と五日がドリルがあります。ドリルはこわいですね。ドリルはむずかしいですから。たくさんはなしますから。六日はよみはあります。。たくさんよみます。八日と九日はかいわとスキートはありまいす。それか十日はテストはあります。しゅくだいがたくさんあります。だからわたしはまいにち三時間うちでべんきょうします。それからテストとクイズがたくさんあります。テストとクイズはやさしくありません。たくさんかきますから。

I apologize for the wait (because I know everyone in my group has been dying to know about my topic and couldn't WAIT to comment, right?) but I finally figured out a way to get around this error in my computer so I can actually WRITE IN NIHONGO (loud cheers!)

アンジェラちゃんは十三さいとです。いもうとはポールがこうでさんねんせいです。時々べんきょうします、でもよくせんしとはなします。だからいいがくせいですね。

アンジェらちゃんはこどもの時たくさんはなしました。それからアンゲラちゃんもいまたくさんはなします。こどもの時はわたしとスポーツをしました、でもいまチームとわスポーツをします。バスケとボールとソーカーとテニスをします。ちょっとプレーヤですね、でもよくコーチとはなします。

So, a couple questions for everyone...
What section Japanese are you taking next sem!? (Are you taking it next sem??) I'm pretty sure I'm going to take the 11AM section. Either that or the 1PM, but ... the 11 looks better for me.
Also, what did you guys think about the test? I actually thought it wasn't that bad. The conversation at the end was a little harder than usual though, a little more thinking involved (meeting satoo sensei at a bus stop wha!?) I looked through the grammar for this chapter, and I'm pretty excited to learn about it actually. (I haven't quite done the grammar sheet yet though, they're getting harder every chapter...).

So when I took Spanish, the first thing I learned was of course 'Hola, como estas. Muy bien, y tu?' and 'me gusta' ('I like'). So for everything we did it would be like me gusta nadar (i like to swim). me gusta comer (i like to eat). etc etc. In Japanese, we have waited until CHAPTER FIVE to learn this stuff. Which I think it kinda crazy. But japanese is also like no other language I've ever seen before, haha.

what makes a good blog.
i actually have no idea. i used to be a big fan of blogs actually. i had livejournal, xanga, myspace, and all the other 'free website sites' like expage.com, etc. (yes i was a big nerd and i did follow every fad ever). but for this blog project, i don't know what really is a 'good blog'. ラムさんのブローグis pretty interesting to look at, because she puts so much stuff on there. and anggie's chinchilla is adorable. but i don't really know what i can/cannot put thats not japanese related, you know what i mean?

i think we should start a 二時のクラス study group. whats everyone think? or at least we should talk to each other in 日本語 more. i think that'd be pretty cool.

it's 2 hours before our daisanka no tesuto.
how do people study for nihongo tests? like i feel like this is the only class that i feel so prepared for the test before we take it, that i don't know what to go over and i kinda sit there and think.. well.. i already know this stuff? we've gone over it so many times preparing for each individual class, that by the time tests roll around... do we just go over it again??

i ran into my friend greg yesterday, he's in japn 310. wow. everyone always tells me to call him when i'm having trouble with something, but when i have trouble i don't think it's necessarily anything i would 'need help for', it's just me having the time and patience... and self discipline of course... to practice practice practice!

i think our skit went well at least yesterday. right graff-san??

i'm going to the navy bday celebration tonight because my boyfriend is in rotc, which is pretty exciting. and then tomorrow is my old friends 21st bday surprise party. and of course homecoming game. and then starting a new chapter in nihongo. woooo. hahah.

and with that, maybe a little bit more review before classes start today. it sucks having 3 classes on fridays...

i'm completely lost on chapter 3 material. i thought i would get it, after the grammar sheet, because i took forever to try to understand, and then in class i was like WHOA O_O. maybe also because i have a fever, but i think it's more that i'm just going to have to work harder on this chap? it's the first time i didn't understand right away!

I'm nervous about kanji too. ahh so many things to remember.

anyway, when i was studying for the test on wednesday, i forgot to mention that there were native japanese speakers sitting beside me in the pav. i felt like they were laughing at my weak attempt with my 'watashi wa's' and my 'takai desu ne's' flueeency?? blegh. i'm glad today's lab (sorry satoo sensee). its more passively involved, so my weeklong sickness won't get in the way of more performance in class...

Konnichiwa!

So what did you guys think of our test? I thought it was decent, though very loooooong. I was so nervous when I was writing the situation answers. "Conversation with more than 4 sentences." I put so many ___ desu ne? Aa soo desu ka, Soo desu yo! etc etc. Confirmation Confirmation CONFIRMATION. It's taken me forever to actually learn when to use yo, ne, and yone. I'm pretty sure I understand now after asking Satoo Sensee about a million and three times.

Hm, what's helped me learn vocab, hiragana, and katakana? Well.. for vocab I found very helpful this thing I learned in eighth grade spanish class. (si, en mi primera clase de espanol). I fold a sheet of paper in half, and on one the margin of one side I write all the words in Nihongo, and on the other side against the crease I write all the words in eego. So then, when you're studying, you can fold one half in ANOTHER half, and cover the words. And call them out to yourself! Haha, hope that makes sense, but I found it's easier for vocab than flashcards, because flashcards build up, but pieces of paper can be easily kept in a notebook or something.

Katakana I'm still a little bit lost on, but going to office hours helped me out A LOT, i woulda died on the test if i didnt see satoo sensee at 12. But I don't really have any tips on learning those...

So, new chapter? Chapter 2 I thought was already significantly harder than Chapter 1, so I'm kinda nervous. I have a goal though... I'm going to get good participation points, so if I seem super obnoxious in class, it's because i'm working super hard to get them :) haha. Jaa mata.

... Oh PS, I'm in Bryan Hall on a Mac, so I have no idea how to do hiragana on this. haha.

I'm excited that I can finally write in ひらがなon my computer! It took me forever how to figure it out.

This past week I had two exams in しんりがく。They weren't too bad, but it got me behind in some of my other classes. にほんご is getting harder. I am having a lot of trouble doing the カタカナ。 Like all the spelling and stuff? And even just memorizing, to write something like ム I find myself writing on the side　マミムメモ and picking the one I should use. Anyone have any tips on memorizing/the rules??

I'm also getting started on my research! (Finally after all my training). I'm in a lab under Professor Mikami in the Psych department, and we're researching about ADHD. I'm excited to get some experience with that.

Well I have a headache, so that's all...

So writing a blog for a class? Never thought that would happen... but I guess it'll be nice to be able to read what everyone's saying. I wish I could play with the Japanese symbols on my computer though. Doesn't that program cost like $100 to get?!

Hm, so I like how we're all friends in our class. I guess we kinda have to be, because most of us are lost and confused a lot of the time, we gotta rely on everyone else... But it's cool that we all stuck with it, unlike the people who dropped... tsk tsk. heh, just kidding. I was really confused on a lot of stuff that we did in Grammar today though...

Japan Curry Night tomorrow? My friend's coming from JMU, but I took her to Filipino food night last year, why not Japanese too? On Sunday I'm going to Downtown Thai though, I'm excited. (I go to restaurants like every week. Twenty new restaurants this summer in Charlottesville! Like anggie said.. Oishii! =)
